Pathways to Aviation Event
The Minden Soaring Club Youth Program is helping local students and families attend the Pathways to Aviation Event, an evening designed to introduce young people to aviation careers, aviation education, and the excitement of flight.
This event is sponsored by the Gillemot Foundation and the University of Nevada, Reno and features local record-setting pilot Gordon Boettger, who will share how he started soaring as a teenager and how that experience led to a career in aviation as an airline pilot and world-renowned glider pilot. Many of his record flights began right here in Nevada.
At the event, members of the Minden Soaring Club Youth Program will host an information table, answer questions, and talk with students who may be interested in learning to fly gliders, joining the club’s youth activities, and possibly pursuing future flight-training opportunities and scholarships.

Transportation Support for Students and Families
The Minden Soaring Club Youth Program is organizing carpooling and, if there is enough interest, a bus so students and parents can get to the event more easily. If you are interested in transportation, please complete the form below.
We are planning transportation from:
- Minden-Tahoe Airport
- Carson City Airport
Current planning assumptions are a departure at about 4:00 PM and a return at about 9:00 PM. If a bus is used, permission slips will be sent to parents or guardians, and snacks and water will be provided for the trip.
Before You Fill Out the Form
Please complete this form if you would like to:
- request a seat on a possible bus
- be matched with a carpool
- indicate that a parent or guardian may be able to drive and attend
If you are coming to the event on your own, you do not need to complete the transportation section.
